And now a meme, snagged from [personal profile] batyatoon. The year in review, as seen through public posts in this journal. (Bolded phrases are subject lines; unbolded are first lines of the post, used where no subject line exists.)

January: Have figured out how to convert and transfer fanfiction to my NookColor.
February: Clearly, Castle needs to let Beckett behind the wheel of that Ferrari more often.
March: "Dewey Thing-y"...hey, I'm a librarian and even I laughed at that one!
April: I wonder...how many LJ users who were against the buyout by Russia are now going "I told you so?"
May: So, Osama Bin Laden is dead.
June: Well, the Cubs lost, Aramis got beaned in the face by a ground ball, Dad spilled part of his beer on my foot and when we got home from the game two police cars were parked in front of our next door neighbor's house and we think the ambulance took someone from that house away.
July: So, I got my copy of the Avatar "Lost Adventures" trade paperback in the mail today.
August: Goddamn you, mosquitoes. Goddamn you all.
September: Writer's Block: 9/11
October: Poor Adam, always getting the short end of the stick...even if it is funny. And he's a ham.
November: Writer's Block: Daylight Saving Time
December: Writer's Block: B.Y.O.B. Holidays

Borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] wishfulaces. Your job is now your Time Lord name. The last digit of your phone number is the current regeneration you are in. The nearest clothing item to your right is now the most notable item in your current wardrobe. The last person you texted is your current companion. Your favorite word is now your catchphrase.

According to this I am The Librarian, and I'm in my third incarnation. Considering my closet is to my right I suppose I can just pick whatever article of clothing I want to be my most notable item. (It was either that or the bathrobe I'm wearing right now. You can guess which one's not gonna happen.) I have never texted anybody, ever, so I have no companion. And no favorite words, so no catchphrase for me either.

Damn, I'd be a boring Time Lord wouldn't I?

Look at your LJ userpics list. If you have fewer than 50 icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly why you have it, why it's interesting to you, and what significance it has. And who made it.

I have 200 icons now. Unless otherwise noted, the icons that appear here were made by Yours Truly.

Go to Wikipedia and type in your birthday (month and day). Then you write down 3 events, 3 births, 3 deaths, 3 holidays, and tag 3 friends.

My birthday happens to fall on May 1, which is slightly more exciting than I initially thought it was.

Events:
1776 – Establishment of the Illuminati in Ingolstadt (Upper Bavaria), by Jesuit-taught Adam Weishaupt.
1893 – The World's Columbian Exposition opens in Chicago.
1915 – The RMS Lusitania departs from New York City on her two hundred and second, and final, crossing of the North Atlantic. Six days later, the ship is torpedoed off the coast of Ireland with the loss of 1,198 lives, including 128 Americans, rousing American sentiment against Germany.

Births
1852 – Calamity Jane, American Wild West performer (d. 1903)
1929 - Paul Herlinger, American voice actor (d. 2010)*
1939 – Judy Collins, American folk singer

Deaths
1920 – Princess Margaret of Connaught (b. 1882)
1965 – Spike Jones, American band leader, musician, and comedian (b. 1911)
2003 – Miss Elizabeth, American wrestler (b. 1960)

Holidays
May Day
Lei Day – Hawaiian holiday for the Lei.
Roman Empire – all-female festival in honour of Bona Dea.

Eh, if you're my friend consider yourself tagged ;)

*Technically Paul Herlinger wasn't on the list of births for the Wikipedia entry on May 1. But he was an amazing talent and just wonderful in the role of John Avery Whittaker from Adventures in Odyssey that I couldn't not recognize him, especially after I found out we shared the same birthday.

Stolen from Shaun.

Where and when did you start rping?
I think it was around 2001 or 2002, I did some roleplaying at a Redwall board.

Do you prefer first-person comment spam or prose logging?
Prose. I can do first-person comment spam in places like SWS or communities that have journaling as part of the game, but I like prose better.

What was the first character you ever played?
Wilhemina Germanis, the only furry persona I've ever had, from the Redwall board.

Who's your favorite character to play now and why?
Probably Dani Phantom, although I do love playing Luna over at Corinth.

What's the longest you've ever consistently played one character?
Dani Phantom, since March of 2007 and still going strong.

What's your biggest rp pet peeve?
This is the only way I can phrase this: Just because I don't use AIM does not mean that I am entirely unreachable.
Also not getting responses to posts or comments. It's one thing to drop a thread after tagging for a bit. But I'm posting because I want to play, so not getting any responses at all really bugs me.
And finally, forgetting not only the password to a pup journal that you want to use again but the password for the e-mail account the lost password e-mail gets sent to. *headdesks*

Do you read rp secrets and the rp anon meme?
Not regularly, and I hate RP anon/love memes because the few times I've done them most of the time I didn't get one comment, good or bad. It's like...why even bother?

If you've played in public before, do you prefer community based or journal based games?
Community based. Having to friend every new pup that joins just gets tedious and annoying, especially when you have several pups of your own that you have to update friends lists for. It was just easier for me to read the friends list of the log comm to get updates of all the characters' journals.

Would you rather play with someone who's very very ic but a mediocre writer or someone who isn't always ic (but not terrible) and a great writer?
As long as any spelling and grammar!fail weren't too severe, I'd prefer playing with someone who kept their characters IC.

Do you have a "rp partner"?
Quite a few, many of them among the Element EU RP Muns. There's also my partner-in-crime from Milliways [livejournal.com profile] shinyhappygoth.

Do you ever stalk any casts, games, or players? who?
Not really. If I'm not in an RP or I leave it, it goes off the watchlist. I still have some muns from Aphar friended, even though it's been ages since that game's been active.

In your opinion, which part of an app is the most difficult/annoying?
Personality and Character History, especially when apping a second/third tier/one-shot character and the application requirements are "at least" 300 words or something like that. There's only so much I can pull out of my ass if canon doesn't give it to me!

Are you one of those people who has to customize their character's journal layout and userinfo?
Moreso the journal layout than the userinfo, but mainly because I can't stand the default layout LJ uses every time I create a new pup journal.

What was your first game?
If we're going by LJ rps, my first serious one was [livejournal.com profile] jumpcitynexus.

Are there any canons you avoid tagging characters from?
Usually canons that I'm not familiar with, which is a pretty large category.

Most memorable scene in any thread?
Ooh, tough question there. Well, the one that immediately pops into my head is Kole telling Slade off for assuming that she'd end her friendship with Jericho after learning that Jericho was Slade's son.

Or Dani pulling off the Ghostly Wail after she and Enzo follow Danny into the Ghost Zone during the Phantom Planet plot.

Do you rp sex?
*ahem* NO.

Do you play more males or females?
Female, although there is a handful of males in my RP roster.

What won't you rp?
Sex, of any sort.

Dressing rooms: yes or no?
Occasionally.

Ever rped a pairing?
Only a couple, mainly Dani Phantom/Enzo Matrix and Elyon/Hay Lin.

Favorite place to play: musebox, open posts, public games, private games?
Element EU, Corinth, Milliways, SixWordStories.

Talking rp with someone else who plays your character: fun or awkward?
Well, I haven't done a lot of talking with someone who plays the same character that I do so it's not really either.

3. Think of 5 fictional characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

[livejournal.com profile] severa gave me the letter L (La la la la...lemon...)

Using first and last names here.

1. Inspector G. Lestrade, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. Specifically Lestrade as he is portrayed by Colin Jeavons in the Granada series; not a bumbling police officer but a capable detective and member of Scotland Yard, and someone who respects Holmes and his work rather than resents him. My favorite Lestrade moment (from Granada) is from SIXN, while Lestrade is waiting in the sitting room of 221B waiting for Holmes and Watson to return. He's so bored, he can't resist trying to peek at one of the other cases Holmes has got lying around...and is completely unaware that Holmes and Watson have returned, are spying on him and are trying not to crack up about it.

2. Lee Shuichon, Digimon Tamers. Not only my favorite character out of the Digimon Tamers season, but quite possibly my favorite Digimon character period. Shuichon's cute, but with the potential to kick ass when she gets older. Sadly, she's also one of my more neglected characters over in Dive...gotta fix that.

3. Luna Lovegood, Harry Potter. The "odd girl out" of Hogwarts. Having been one of the "social misfits" myself during my school days, I definitely identify and sympathize with Luna. I also wish that I had had her ability to not let what my classmates did bother me.

4. Doctor Lucien Dubenko, ER. One of the few reasons that I may still tune in to ER from time to time. I'll admit, I liked Dubenko when he was first introduced and a bit more quirkier; i.e. drawing diagrams with Sharpie markers and crushing on Abby.

5. Louie Nichols, Robotech. To the point, Louie was the "geek" of the 15th ATACs and I loved him for it. And, unlike my other favorite Robotech characters, Louie is the only character whose Shadow Chronicles treatment I prefer over his fate in End of the Circle (except for the possible romance with Janice Em. Give me Louie/Allegra or Louie/Dana any day). I prefer my Louie to be 100% human and not a cyborg, thank you.

Seen 'round the f-list a few times:

When you see this, post in your journal with a quote from Doctor Who.

"There's no point being grown-up if you can't be childish sometimes."

As uttered by the "genuine article" himself, the Fourth Doctor. 'Cause I'll always have a soft spot for Tom Baker.

1. Pick 15 of your favourite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions!

And I'm going to follow her lead and limit everyone to three answers per person. EDIT: That means even if you know the answers to all of them, you can only pick THREE to answer. It's not much fun if you don't give other people a chance.

Insert witty remark here )

First of all, if I get called about subbing tomorrow it had better be before 7 am. I can't get up, shower, take care of the pets, eat and get to the school by 7:30 in the span of fifteen minutes! Maybe I'll just stay home again...

Second, a meme. Ganked from...someone on my f-list; I'm too tired to remember or go back to check who.

Yoinked this from [livejournal.com profile] obabscribbler. I seem to recall doing this particular meme a couple years or so ago, but seeing as how my fandom tastes have changed and expanded, I figured it's worth doing again.

First, write down the names of 12 characters. It works out better if they're all from the same fandom, but I decided to be like Scribbler and go for the crack!factor ('cause everyone loves crack). Then read and answer the questions. You can't look at the questions (or click on the cut) until you write down the 12 characters you're going to use.

And my characters of choice are:

1. Toph Bei Fong (Avatar: TLA)
2. Odd (Code Lyoko)
3. Elyon Brown (WITCH)
4. Sokka (Avatar: TLA)
5. Dani Phantom (Danny Phantom)
6. Hadji Singh (Johnny Quest/TRAOJQ)

Been sitting on this meme for a while; I saw it on someone else's journal and wanted to do it, but never got around to doing so. And then today I figured, it'd be good for an "end of the year" thing. So, here it is. Instructions are simple if anyone wants to do it - go through your userpics and find the one that best fits each category, and explain a bit why you picked it. At least, that's what I think the meme was about.

Cut for a good amount of icconage )

And that's the icon meme, in a nutshell.

ladyiapetus: (Muppet Christmas Carol: Christmas Past)
Ookay, it's 5 to 8 on a snow day and I'm not sleeping in. You'd think I'd take advantage of this opportunity after having to get up at the crack of dead all the rest of this week.

Snagged this from [livejournal.com profile] germankitty.

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Hot chocolate. I've never had eggnog before, and I don't think I'll start. I mean, nogging eggs...that's just wrong.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree?
In all of my twenty-five years on this planet, Mom and Dad Santa has never wrapped a present he's put under the tree. When I was younger we had to wait until Mom and Dad got up to take stuff out of the boxes, though.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or clear?
We used to put colored lights on, but for the past fifteen years or so we've used white. Except for Mom's purple/tacky tree. That gets purple lights.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Nope. Not even the fake, plastic mistletoe.

5. When do you put your decorations up?
Normally we wait until a few days into December. But this year with Dad going back to Singapore, the Christmas roof lights went up the day after Thanksgiving. Mom put up the garland and the porch lights this week, but the lights decided to crap out on her after she put them up. Looks like we're probably going to have to wait for Dad to come home to fix that problem. In-house decorations probably won't go up until either this weekend or next week. The tree normally goes up in the first part of December, but again this year we'll have to wait until Dad comes home.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
Taco platter.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child:
Hmm...don't have a specific favorite holiday memory. Although I do still remember the Christmas Eve where I set my hair on fire somewhat vividly. That's one I probably won't forget. Oh, and there's also the Christmas story I wrote for first grade. Our assignment was to write about Rudolph's nose going out and how he fixed the problem. Other kids wrote about Rudolph changing the light bulb in his nose; I wrote my first crossover by having TenderHeart Bear of the Care Bears using his Care Bear Stare to make Rudolph's nose glow again.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
When I was in middle school. My mom basically sat me down in my room and asked, "You know there's no such thing as Santa, right?"

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
We used to do it on Christmas Eve afternoon, before relatives came over to our house to celebrate (or we went to one of their houses). Now we actually do it on Dec. 23 so that we have more time on Christmas Eve to get stuff ready, since everyone just comes over to our house now.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?:
Love it when I don't have to scrape it off my car and drive in it. Speaking of, I think my car's half-buried already...

12. Can you ice skate?
Never tried.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
My favorite would definately have to be the CozyHeart Penguin plush (old school) I got a few years ago. When I was a little kid, CozyHeart was the only Care Bear toy I had, and Mom made me sell her along with a bunch of my other stuffed animals. When I started collecting Care Bears I always checked flea markets, but the only Cousins the vendors ever had were SwiftHeart, BraveHeart, LotsaHeart and GentleHeart.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Seeing the decorations out and stuff. It always makes the house seem brighter and more festive.

15. What is your favorite Holiday dessert?
Ooh, boy. Tough choice between my mom's sugar cookies and her peanut butter Rice Krispie squares. And her peanut brittle. And peppermint stick ice cream is always good...mmm, peppermint stick ice cream...

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
We don't really follow through with it now, but since my dad's side of the family is so big we had to draw names for the gift exchange. There were two pools - one for the grandkids and another for the adults. We drew names when we had our Thanksgiving get-together.

17. What tops your tree?
When I was younger, we had a foil star that went up at the top of the tree. When we moved into our current house, we traded in the star for an angel. A few years ago we switched out the angel for a purple (naturally) needle.

18. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving?
I like to do both. It's part of why I joined [livejournal.com profile] holiday_wishes.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?
I like any Christmas song when its sung by the Muppets ;) In all seriousness, I'd have to say its a three way tie between "When the River Meets the Sea", "True Blue Miracle" (from Chrismas Eve on Sesame Street) and "Carol of the Bells" as performed by the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

Myself
by Edgar Albert Guest

I have to live with myself, and so I want to be
fit for myself to know.
I want to be able as days go by to look myself
straight in the eye.
I don't want to stand with the setting sun and
thing of things I have or haven't done.
I want to go out with my head erect.
I want to deserve all men's respect, I want to be able
to like myself.
I don't want to look at myself and know that I'm a
bluster, a bluff and an empty show.
I can never hate myself from me. I see what others
may never see.
I know what others may neverk now.
I can never fool myself so whatever happens, I want
to be self-respecting and conscience-free.

bluster, a bluff and an empty show.
I can never hate myself from me. I see what others
may never see.
I know what others may neverk now.
I can never fool myself so whatever happens, I want
to be self-respecting and conscience-free.

I stoled it from [livejournal.com profile] innerbrat. And from [livejournal.com profile] bobomagicksock.

I have 103 icons )
