Writer's Block: My Town

Byron, Illinois is home to the Soldier's Monument, the only thing in the city listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was recently refurbished in time for Memorial Day 2012, although the eagle that used to be on top of the spire was not replaced (guess no one wants lightning to strike a third time).
The town is also the birthplace and hometown of Albert Spalding, founder of A.G. Spalding Sporting Goods. Remember seeing the name "Spalding" on those basketballs you played with during gym class or at recess? That's the same guy.
