Fanfic Author Appreciation Week
March 6 through March 13
Post to your LJ each day at least one of your favorite fanfic authors and why you love them, their work, and why they need more appreciation.

Well here it is, the last day of Fanfic Author Appreciation Week. And so for my last act for this week, I'll leave you all with links to some of my favorite fanfic by authors who haven't already been mentioned here over the past seven or so days, and hopefully that will encourage you to check out their other works that I wasn't able to mention.

From the Shadows, by Black Queen.
An X-Men: Evolution fic set after the second season finale "Day of Reckoning", and AU for the rest of the series. Clocking in at an astonishing 91 chapters, 216, 471 words with no signs of stopping, this is probably one of the best - if not THE best - Evo fics you'll find out there. Rogue/Gambit is the main romance of the story and therefore Rogue and Remy are the main characters. But the romance is never forced in any way at any time during the fic, and Black Queen lets it evolve as the characters themselves grow. At no time does it seem like the plot or the characterization of the characters take a back seat to the coupling.

Entertaining Destiny, One if By Land, Two if By Sky and When Your Dreams Come True, all by Aerohead.
Writing in a universe that combines elements of the musical Wicked and the book from which it was based, Aerohead's stories revolve around the daughters of Glinda and Elphaba as they grow up, attend Shiz and try to right both the political and racial unrest that still remains in Oz. And check out some of Aerohead's other Wick-fic while you're there; you won't regret it.

A Long Awaited Love Story by Failite.
"ALALS" is probably the centerpiece of Failite's Voltron universe, as it documents her perspective of the evolution of the relationship between Keith and Allura.

Kingdom Come by Serengeti Dawn.
No, this has nothing to do with the DC title of the same name, or even the DC universe. Instead it chronicles the Disney land of Animasia, an amalgamation of nearly all the lands shown in every animated Disney film, as its inhabitants, the Disney characters we all know and love, prepare to reveal themselves to the real world at the dawn of the new millenium. Still a WIP.

There are many, many more fics that I could reccommend but unfortunately I don't have the time or the right to monopolize space on people's friends lists.

Fanfic Author Appreciation Week

Post to your LJ each day at least one of your favorite fanfic authors and why you love them, their work, and why they need more appreciation.

My second author for the day, and last author of the week, is another good friend of mine. She currently goes by the name Higuchimon on FF.Net, but she's better known to me and anyone who frequents DiFWy or remembers an old PR message board called the Angel Grove Youth Center as Cynthia.

Cyn writes mainly in the Digimon universe, with Power Rangers and Yu-Gi-Oh tied for second place. Like everyone else Cyn has her favorite pairings that she likes to read and write for, but one of the things I like about her is that she respects all couplings. If she has to give reasons for why she dislikes one pairing, Cyn does it logically and doesn't resort to all the frothing at the mouth that a majority of rabid fans are prone to do. In fact, sometimes it's her use of logic while offering constructive criticism on a fic that causes other authors and their sockpuppets friends to froth at the mouth ;)

Victory Is Sweet: If there's anything Cynthia could be said to be truly good at it's fics that fuck with your mind, and this fic is concrete proof of that. Never at any one point during this fic does the reader know more than Daisuke does, and what Daisuke knows is questionable. Is the Kaizer really the bad guy here? How can you be sure? ;)

Another thing I admire about Cyn is that she respects all characters, and tries to make them as in character as she possibly can in her fics. And that means including all the growth they've accumulated over the course of the season/series. A good example would be Omisoka. At first glance it's a simple fic about the Tamers celebrating New Year's. But everyone is in character: Ruki hangs out with her friends willingly, yet her personality is 100% intact; Hirokazu's a bit of a goof but he's not an idiot, and secondary characters such as Kenta, Shiuchon, Ai and Mako actually exist.

Looking over all of her written works, it looks like all Cyn writes are romances, friendship and adventure fics. But she also has a sense of humor, and I can think of no other work that exemplifies that than this one. I won't try to summarize it or even give away the title. I'll just warn you to make sure you're not consuming any foods or liquids while reading this piece.

Well, that's almost it for Fanfic Author Appreciation Week. I've still got one more thing up my sleeve for this, but I won't be posting it until sometime tomorrow. So, until then y'all!

Fanfic Author Appreciation Week
March 6 through March 13
Post to your LJ each day at least one of your favorite fanfic authors and why you love them, their work, and why they need more appreciation.

Gonna plug two more authors tonight, but I'll give them their own separate posts instead of having them share one.

Today's first author is The J.A.M.. J.A.M.'s what you might call a "furry", because he mainly writes in the Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers and Tiny Toon Adventures fandoms. In fact his furry "persona" on the TTA-FIC mailing list is a jaguar. But J.A.M.'s really one of the nicest guys out there, and his fanfic work doesn't always get the recognition it deserves.

Before he moved into the universe of Acme Acres and the TTA fandom, J.A.M. wrote for that old Disney Afternoons cartoon, Rescue Rangers. Probably his most famous work in that fandom is Death of a Comedian. DoaC is the sequel to another of J.A.M.'s RR works that was an alternate look at another RR fanfic written by a different author. At 36 chapters it was definately a labor of love on J.A.M.'s part.

Probably J.A.M.'s biggest achievement in the TTA fandom is the "Mary Trilogy", consisting of these three fics. The "Mary Trilogy", while being an SI, stands out because it focuses on the "bit players" of TTA in particular Mary "Another Cameo, Another Paycheck" Melody.

The second fic of the trilogy introduces J.A.M.'s version of the "next generation" of Tiny Toons. These characters factor heavily into J.A.M.'s lastest fic, Jacob Marley's Daughter. In it Dakota Dee, daughter of Elmyra and Montana Max, gets the Christmas Carol treatment. And compared to what she goes through in the fic, Scrooge and anyone else whose been put through that in various Christmastime remakes got off easy.

But J.A.M. isn't all seriousness, drama, romance and angst all the time. He also has a great sense of humor, as evidenced by the "gag reels" he adds to the ends of his fics and by this fic here, in which Mary Melody gets the "Duck Amuck" treatment.

The author du jour is Cybra, writer of many fandoms who is currently ensconsed in the Codename: Kids Next Door fandom.

The first of Cybra's works that I came across was After The Falls, a Great Mouse Detective fic wherein Basil deals with the news of Holmes' death after the events of The Final Problem. It's told from the points of view of both Basil and Dawson, and features Watson in a supporting role. The rest of her GMD fics are a treat to read as well, from her adaptations to her humor fics.

The Secret is one of Cybra's forays into the Hey Arnold! fandom. Cybra's always been good at keeping the characters she writes about in-character, and even giving them deeper characterization in some cases. This fic is one of the best examples of that.

Cybra's dabbled in other fandoms, such as Yu-Gi-Oh and Code Lyoko, but her current interest seems to lie in both KND and Kingdom Hearts. Remembering Buckleberry Row is one of my favorites and Cybra's partial explanation for the origins of the Delightful Children from Down the Lane, and why Sector V is always being targeted by one villain or another.

And finally, saving the best for last, there's Cybra's "Journey of the King" trilogy, chronicling the life of King Mickey. The first installment, King's Ascent, takes place before Kingdom Hearts and details the beginning of Mickey's problems with Ansem and the Heartless. It's something of a lengthy read, but it's a fresh change from the plethora of KH fics that treat Riku and Sora (and sometimes Kairi) as if they're the only characters of the game.

King's Exile is the sequel to Ascent and Cybra's current WIP. With only three chapters so far, Exile is Cybra's take on what King Mickey was up to during KH. So far it promises to be every bit as excellent as Ascent is. Personally, I hold it on the same level as Lord Akiyama's Fantasia Crisis series.

Today's author is Lord Akiyama. Actually, it's more like I'm plugging two of his fics in particular. One is JL/DC-inspired, while the other is a DC concept modified to fit the DCAU, but both are awesome reads.

The first fic is Fantasia Crisis. Although inspired by DC's "Crisis on Infinite Earths", this takes place in the Disney universe with Disney characters. A dozen characters, all from twelve different Disney movies, are called together to defeat Chernabog. The fic has a bit of a "Kingdom Hearts"-feel to it, what with all the world-hopping the heroes do, but there's no sign of Sora or the Heartless. Akiyama is slowly working on the sequel to this fic, and so far it promises to be as good as or better than it's predecessor.

Second is Kingdom Come, DCAU-style. Totally disregarding JLU, Akiyama modifies the original Kingdom Come into an awesome post-Starcrossed AU. I can't really say much more about it, because I don't know what to say or where to begin. Suffice it to say, you'll have to read this one for yourself.

Today's author is one who dabbles primarily in the Marvel and DC animated universes.

Rurouni Tyriel

Graduation is RT's final foray into the universe of X-Men: Evolution and his "Evolization" of the Dark Phoenix saga. It's pulled off very well, with the Phoenix manifesting as another surge in Jean's powers and no sign of the Shi'ar or any other alien races. Just plain ol' XM:Evo goodness, along with a couple glimpses into the future thrown in.

What I like about Rurouni Tyriel's work is that it feels like it's actually a part of the universe that he's writing in, something that is sadly lacking in a lot of fandoms. For example, this fic, one of RT's JLU fics in which we see what the other superheroes on the Watchtower were doing while GL, GA, Captain Atom and Supergirl were battling that robot. It's just a fanfic but RT's writing style and characterization (especially that of the Flash) are so good that you wish it could be animated into an episode.

I could go on about RT's other works, such as his other JLU one-shots, his Teen Titans fics or his "Evolizations" of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, but then this entry would get long and it would just clutter up your friends list.

Today's author is Silvormoon, writer in quite a few fandoms and a very good friend of mine.

The Spirits Within: A Digimon Frontier fic wherein the six Chosen Children are offered an opportunity to return to the Digital World. Naturally, adventure follows. It's Silvor's current WIP, and a fic where the plot, characterization and friendship between the characters isn't overshadowed or thrown to the wayside in favor of two characters discovering their OMG!!onetwuwuv.

Silvor does a lot of writing in the Digimon fandom, and most of it seems to revolve around the Tamers season. Second-tier characters get just as much attention in her fics as the main characters do, as seen here, and she's not afraid to write an AU or crossover.

But she's not limited to just the Digimon fandom. Silvor's also written for Power Rangers, Slayers and Pokemon as well. She's also one of the few authors who can create an OC that I enjoy reading and doesn't turn into a Mary Sue at any point during the fic.

Dragon Master may, at first glance, appear to be another "OC goes out on his/her first Pokemon journey" fic, but it's much more than that. No cliches to be found in this fic, not even the required "New trainer meets up with Ash & Company". In fact, Ash doesn't even make so much as a cameo in the story.

Aside from her fic-writing prowess, Silvor is also a very kind person, one who doesn't suffer fools lightly but doesn't retaliate with sarcasm or insults. I'm really glad to have known her for as long as I have.
