Comic reviews, and Fanfic Author Appreciation Week Day 4

Exiles #60

If the Timebroker is a figment of the Exiles' collective unconsciousness, then they must have some pretty sadistic thoughts swirling around in their subconscious minds. First Heather gets left behind, now Beak is abandoned and the remainder of the group dumped in Blink's home universe (this being the 10th Anniversary of Age of Apocalypse), and the missing members are replaced by Holocaust. All because the Timebroker is "punishing" them for not killing Mimic.

Whatever happened to the nice little bald man who served the first Exiles donuts and coffee in the first issue?

Outsiders #20

The dialogue between Jade and Starfire, both before and after discovering Rift and Indigo en flagrante delicto, was fantastic. Particularly their conversation about make out locales. And I must say, having a shapeshifter for a boyfriend/lover must make for some...interesting evenings. Also, remind me to never piss off Indigo.

Finally...I don't think I want to be Bruce right now...

Academy X #10

Julian just keeps on climbing the ranks on my Sh!t list. He keeps ragging on David, even when Cyclops tells him to knock it off. What, is the guy so self-absorbed that he thinks he's above the faculty? Although after reading this issue David's losing popularity with me too; my current theory is that the latter half of this issue is a vision that Emma's giving David to show him what could happen if she removes that mental block of his. At least I'm hoping that's the case.

I'm also intrigued by Kevin's therapist. I may have been reading too much into things, but he seemed a leetle too interested in Laurie when Kevin brought her up. Either he's Laurie's biological father living under an assumed name, or else he knows/works with him. Either way, that scene definately smacks of foreshadowing.

Fanfic Author Appreciation Week
March 6 through March 13
Post to your LJ each day at least one of your favorite fanfic authors and why you love them, their work, and why they need more appreciation.

Today's author is Lord Akiyama. Actually, it's more like I'm plugging two of his fics in particular. One is JL/DC-inspired, while the other is a DC concept modified to fit the DCAU, but both are awesome reads.

The first fic is Fantasia Crisis. Although inspired by DC's "Crisis on Infinite Earths", this takes place in the Disney universe with Disney characters. A dozen characters, all from twelve different Disney movies, are called together to defeat Chernabog. The fic has a bit of a "Kingdom Hearts"-feel to it, what with all the world-hopping the heroes do, but there's no sign of Sora or the Heartless. Akiyama is slowly working on the sequel to this fic, and so far it promises to be as good as or better than it's predecessor.

Second is Kingdom Come, DCAU-style. Totally disregarding JLU, Akiyama modifies the original Kingdom Come into an awesome post-Starcrossed AU. I can't really say much more about it, because I don't know what to say or where to begin. Suffice it to say, you'll have to read this one for yourself.

Got to agree with Ryan after reading "Kingdom Come." Oh, and Iap--keep an eye out for this one ep of EM:HE either in April or May. that takes place in my hometown. One of my classmates might be on it, since he was helping rebuild the home.
