First off, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] cynthia_harrell! (it's 11:36 where I am, so technically it's still your birthday)

Secondly, Day 2 of having the house to myself is nearly over. Being home alone while the 'rents and my brother are away has been better than I thought. Got to play my music on the 5-disc changer stereo and watch my DVDs on the player in the family room without anyone interrupting me. Consumed a small container of Ben & Jerry's Half-Baked Ice Cream over the course of two days (chocolate ice cream, brownie bits and cookie dough...yum!) Nothing's burnt down or blown up, no wild parties, animals have been behaving themselves. Toto especially is taking every opportunity he can to snuggle with me. If I'm sitting down, he's got to be on my lap or sitting beside me or laying on me.

I've also been spending less time in the house than I thought I would, mostly because I've been working. I volunteered last week to work today from 9 to noon. Yesterday I wound up working 12 to 5 at the last minute because Pen remembered - at the last minute - that she had a meeting that day and didn't want to leave Monica out there by herself. And tomorrow I'm working 9 to 12 again for another girl whose baby-sitter canceled on her. *shrugs* Oh, well. I'm in better spirits about things since my evaluation got over and done with, and I could always use the extra hours (and the extra pay).

Third...I hate road construction. Abso-fucking-lutely despise it. The road crew was supposed to have the eastbound lane completed by ByronFest weekend, which was the 8 through the 11 of July.

It's the 28, and they're just now starting on the next phase of construction which is the center of the road. And they've started working at night, 7 pm to 7 am, rather than the daytime because 1) there's less traffic and 2) it's cooler, especially after that heat wave we had. It'll be a fucking miracle and three-quarters if they actually get the entire project finished by December like they planned to.

So anyway, last night the center part of the road was cut out near my street. And by "near" I mean "directly in front of my street". Meaning that eastbound traffic can get into and out of the subdivision just fine, but westbound traffic? Fughettaboutit. If you want to get onto our street and you're heading west, you've got to go past all the construction onto Rt. 72, find a place to turn around and come back on the eastbound lane.

I tell you, tonight those construction dorks had better make some kind of a path for people to get across the road out or in our street, or someone (probably my mom; she was pretty pissed when I told her about it over the phone earlier) is going to raise holy hell over it. I don't know what the hell these guys were thinking; what if an ambulance or a fire truck needed to get into the subdivision? They'd be wasting precious time having to go all the way out of town just to get to us.
