Apr. 30th, 2005 03:43 pmWell, I e-mailed FF.Net today about this stupid "if you didn't write it, don't use it" policy of theirs.
I would like some clarification as to just what constitutes "if you didn't write it, don't post it", if you please.
Does this mean we can now get into trouble for using even a single line from a copyrighted song as an epigraph/opening for a fic chapter, even if we give cite the source in the fic? Or using the title of a song for a chapter title or the title of a story, again even if the source is cited/original artist given credit in the fic?
And pardon my opinion, but perhaps the front page of the site had better be updated again with a better clarification of this new "always has been our policy" rule. There are a lot of people confused about this, and mine is obviously not the first and only e-mail you've received regarding it.
Please feel free to let us know when we're going to get into trouble for writing about something we didn't create, too.

Let's see if I get a response. I must admit, I'm tempted to pack up my toys and go home, as it were.
