ladyiapetus: (Scooter!)
It happened again last night. Matt IMed me ranting and raving about how the latest girl he had tried dating hadn't contacted him, and how that must mean she's gone back to her ex and he's all ready to call or email her and tell her that he's going to break it off with her. And while I'm sitting at my computer, trying to knock some sense into him before he does something really stupid, all I can do is think:

God, we are a real pair of fucking idiots.

He's an idiot for continually letting his hangups over his stepbrother and Lawton get his goat. He's an idiot for always suspecting the latest woman he has his eye on to betray and dump him at a moment's notice, and always accusing them of doing so when he talks to me even when he can provide no concrete proof that that's the case. He's an idiot for taking his frustrations out on and letting himself be abused by Muppet characters (inside joke, don't ask).

Me? I'm an idiot for sitting there listening and trying to dispense a little rationality into his argument. We have done this little dance I don't know how many times, and every single time the steps are the same. He rants, I try to make him see the other side of things, he calms down and agrees to think things over...then one, two, three days later we're back at it again. I'm an idiot for subjecting myself to this for so long. Hell, I finally snapped two nights ago and let him have it: yelling in all caps and large-sized font, trying to hammer rationality into his skull. If we were talking in person I would have slapped him if I had to.

*sighs* Matt, I know you've said that you'll get over Margo and your jealousy towards Lawton and your stepbrother someday, but I truly think that you need professional help. This is not a problem that's going to go away on its own, and if this is the way you react online while talking to me I'd hate to see how you'd react to a situation like this in real life. I love you as a friend, and I don't want to see you hurt yourself or someone else just because you got jealous and couldn't control your anger.

Next time I'll know better not to meddle in anyone's love life.
