So, last Tuesday our internet finally switched providers from Insight to Comcast. Comcast's Internet is supposedly "high-speed" with something called "power boost" to make things even faster.
What we ended up getting was a whole lotta nothing.
So, cue frantic scrambling from me as I sneak peeks into my inbox at work to shoot of emergency emails regarding the important stuff (i.e. Milliways, Dive and TM), followed by three days of boredom as I wait for my brother to get home for the weekend so he can try and fix the darn thing. We ultimately had to borrow the Comcast internet program (which was supposed to be downloaded from the Comcast site, but the link in the button kept directing us back to the page we'd just been on) to get the thing to work. And that was followed by two days of waiting for things to click in on Comcast's side, which finally did on Sunday.
While I was attempting to catch up on what I missed during my absence, I came to the realization that part of me didn't want my Internet back. Not because I'd lost interest in fanfiction or LJ or email, but because if I was still without it I wouldn't have to worry about juggling all of the role-plays I'm involved in. I think I might be coming down with a case of RP burnout.
With Dive, part of me is seriously considering pulling out all together. I tend to measure LJ role-plays by two yardsticks:
milliways_bar and the first (serious) LJRP that I was ever involved in,
apharsites. Both are pan-fandom, like Dive, but the mods are smart about it. At Milliways there are character limits and week-long application windows so that there's time for people to play the characters, get them involved in plots either in-Bar or OOM. Aphar's character policy wasn't as strict, but still the players took more time out for actual plot. I don't get that feeling from Dive. It's starting to feel more like Sages or D_M with people bringing in the "flavor of the week" character. There's more time being devoted to the introduction (and subsequent saving/retrieval) of new characters than there is to the current Boss plot. I can't focus on plots any of my characters might be involved in, because I'm trying to friend the new pups and then doing the same for my other pups.
As for Milliways, it's not so much the entire RP as it is one character I play and another character another mun plays. We've done a fair amount of good with logs between our pups and OOM plots; the problem is her constant bothering me to tag with her. I realize that she wants to get our threads finished in a timely fashion. But sometimes I don't think she realizes or remembers (or it seems that way to me) that there are other ways I might want/have to spend my time. And focusing on other pups in Milliways or in other RPs is only one of them. It's gotten to the point where I only tag with her because I feel like I have to, just to get some peace. And that's when it ceases to be fun.
So...yeah. There's that.
While I was sans internet last week, I finally sat down and watched the Ghost Hunters DVD set (Season 3 part 2) I bought a few weeks ago.
Oh...my God. This show officially blows Most Haunted out. Of. The. Water. The only thing that pisses me off is that our cable package doesn't have the Sci-Fi channel and that iTunes doesn't carry Ghost Hunters. I liked it so much that when Mom and I went to Rockford today I got part 1 of Season 2.
And researcher Steve Gonzalves totally reminds me of CSI: Miami's Tim Speedle. Seriously; the guy even looks a little like Rory Cochrane.
So, in a nutshell, consider this my official announcement of being back on the 'Net.

My friend calls Comcast 'Com-Cost'. She uses Verizon. Me, I got Comcast because it was easy, and I didn't have to think about things.
The leader of the group I briefly ghost-hunted with knows the Ghost Hunter guys. Not terribly well - I don't know that he can call up and say, Hey, it's me, but he knows them because South Jersey Ghost Research is part of the "TAPS Family". One of the reasons I wanted to join the group.
In other words, yeah, I love that show.

Did you know there was also an international version of it that was on earlier this year? I hope it comes to DVD soon, because I've actually been to a couple of those locations, which makes it all the more interesting for me.

But you know my thoughts on that...
