1. Schmendrick the Wizard and Molly Grue, The Last Unicorn

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

This was a no-brainer, for me anyway. TLU is has all the elements a fairy tale ought to have: magic, an evil king, a beautiful young damsel in distress and the prince to be the hero and save the day. But the real love story isn't between the beautiful young damsel and the prince, but between the bumbling, inept wizard and the sharp-tongued, middle-aged scullery woman.

Moment: In the scene where Schmendrick, Molly and Lady Almalthea are going to confront the Red Bull, Schmendrick is the last one to get through because King Haggard is attempting to chop his head off with his sword. Prince Lir shows up out of the blue, and the first thing Molly asks is not what he was doing there or why, but "Where's Schmendrick?" Normally Molly's a tough person, not prone to showing her emotions all that often. But here she doesn't hide how worried she is for Schmendrick, even interrupting Lir and Almalthea's little tete-a-tete because he's not with them.
And when she doesn't get an answer, Molly decides to go back and find him herself. She doesn't get very far as at that moment Schmendrick appears through the mists, falling to his hands and knees thanks to a nice head wound courtesy of Haggard's sword. Molly runs right over to make sure he's all right, not even bothering to hide her fear from him.

2. Dr. Abby Lockhart and Dr. Dubenko, ER

I know, I know; these two stand less than a snowball's chance in hell of ever getting together, especially with the younger man Jake in the picture. Abby's got quite a bit of emotional baggage (especially where her mother and brother are concerned), and Dubenko's...quirky, very quirky, not to mention the slighest bit socially awkward. But in the scenes he's had with her, Dubenko has shown that he thinks very highly of her, helping her to learn to assert herself around the other, more experienced male ER docs. And Abby, being the sort of person she is, would be able to see beyond all of Dubenko's idiosyncracies.

Moment: The episode immediately after season 11's "Skin". News of Abby's abduction by the two gangbangers has made its rounds around the hospital, and everyone is helping her in their own little ways. Dubenko's method? Giving Abby information on post-traumatic stress...two or three large binders' worth of information. Not the best or most tactful thing to do, but as I pointed out earlier...socially awkward.
But Abby took them. She had them with her at the El platform when she bumped into Jake, and if she hadn't done that then she might have read them :)

3. Ogino Chihiro/Sen and Haku, Spirited Away

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Not a big surprise here. Everyone probably knows the story, right? Girl wanders into spirit world, boy meets girl, girl saves boy's life, girl finds out boy saved her life when she was a little girl, boy and girl part ways but boy promises that they'll meet again someday. And you know they will. We all know they will.

Moment: We all know the scene - Chihiro's trapped in the spirit world, and she's freaking out so badly that she's starting to fade away. Haku finds her and makes her eat a berry from a nearby bush or something, thus preventing Chihiro from disappearing. Even at that point in the movie, it's obvious that Chihiro trusts Haku at some level even though neither of them remembers their actual first meeting. It seems almost instinctual.

4. Elphaba and Fiyero, Wicked

All right, I'll admit that I have not seen the musical (yet). But the idea of the social outcast winning the heart of the hero has always been a favorite of mine, and who better to embody that than the so-called Wicked Witch of the West and the Winkie Prince?

Moment: "It's not lying...it's looking at things a different way."

5. Bright Eyes and Howler, Pound Puppies and the Legend of Big Paw

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Like I've said before, cheesy movie with an extra layer or two of grated cheese on top. Not to mention the fact that the movie is an almost completely different beast from the television series. Bright Eyes/Howler isn't exactly prominent in the film; in fact I'd say it's barely hinted at. But the chemistry is there.

Moment: In order to track down the Bone of Scone as well as their missing friends, the remaining Pound Puppies have to cross a rickety-looking bridge over a swamp. Not everyone is thrilled with the prospect of having to walk on the thing, least of all Howler. Cooler reassures the group that everything will be all right, and Bright Eyes attempts to make Howler feel better by simply restating what the Cool One said. It was, IMO, the cutest moment of the movie.
