Well, they say bad luck comes in threes...
Had a fairly huge windstorm earlier today that wound up splitting a maple tree in our front yard practically in half. Nothing was damaged except the tree, thank goodness; if it had been any bigger or any closer to the house, it probably would have ended up taking off the porch and/or my car.
Here's a full shot of the damage:

And here's how close it got to my car:

Here's a close-up of the split in the trunk:

It's been only five days since Toto died. Is it wrong that I want another cat so soon, even though we still have Sassy? Don't get me wrong, I love her to death too. But she's been strictly an upstairs cat ever since we got the dog, and it's so...empty downstairs without a cat lounging around.

I can't say for certain, but maybe finding a way to fill the void would be good. Part of the healing process.

Maybe. Mom's saying she doesn't know if she wants another cat (of course, we said that after we'd put Ginger to sleep and before we got Maddie), and she definitely doesn't want another kitten.

I don't think it is a bad idea to get another cat.

As for the cat, I say go for it. When Tyler died, I had been toying around with the idea of getting another cat, but didn't. Finally, 11 months later, when Domovoi moved in, things felt complete again. This is a two-cat home, no more, no less.

Sassy probably wouldn't mind this being a one-cat home, or even just a one-pet (her) home. That's the other thing we have to consider - any new animal we bring in will probably put her nose way out of joint.

I think getting another cat may very well help with the emptiness downstairs.
And laughter is good too to help the healing process:
Watch as Takeru's mind shatters into a million pieces XD

And you are a cruel, cruel man Shaun.

Canis dubbed me "Chaosbringer" a few months ago if that's any step up from "Insanity Monger".

But, I'm not on my own which means the possibility of getting a new cat is a family decision. And I have no idea if Mom, Dad and the brother feel the same way I do.

I don't think it's wrong, but you should do what you think is right on the new cat issue. I mean,it's you who's going to be living with the cat, not anyone else, nor can anyone else tell you what "too soon" is.

And I can understand why you thought that way. I don't really like to admit (even to myself) that I'm almost 30 and I'm still living at home because financially I'm not ready.
