Well, they say bad luck comes in threes...

Had a fairly huge windstorm earlier today that wound up splitting a maple tree in our front yard practically in half. Nothing was damaged except the tree, thank goodness; if it had been any bigger or any closer to the house, it probably would have ended up taking off the porch and/or my car.

Here's a full shot of the damage:

And here's how close it got to my car:

Here's a close-up of the split in the trunk:

It's been only five days since Toto died. Is it wrong that I want another cat so soon, even though we still have Sassy? Don't get me wrong, I love her to death too. But she's been strictly an upstairs cat ever since we got the dog, and it's so...empty downstairs without a cat lounging around.

Wow, that's really lucky. You might wind up losing the tree, though. The half that's left doesn't look like it'll stand up to much.

I can't say for certain, but maybe finding a way to fill the void would be good. Part of the healing process.

Wow. You car's guardian angel was doing its job, no?

I don't think it is a bad idea to get another cat.

Yowza! I love storms, but I really hate it when it takes down trees. Back in '01, Lansing got the worst storm that it's seen in a long time, and our entire town lost tons of trees. Boo.

As for the cat, I say go for it. When Tyler died, I had been toying around with the idea of getting another cat, but didn't. Finally, 11 months later, when Domovoi moved in, things felt complete again. This is a two-cat home, no more, no less.

I love windstorms but it always blows over trees here in town.

I think getting another cat may very well help with the emptiness downstairs.

And laughter is good too to help the healing process: [livejournal.com profile] heart_ovr_mind

Watch as Takeru's mind shatters into a million pieces XD

Evil runs in my blood. Evil, Crazy and Awesome.

Canis dubbed me "Chaosbringer" a few months ago if that's any step up from "Insanity Monger".

I'm all for getting another cat...it isn't wrong at all. When my mom and her boyfriend lost their cat, it wasn't long before they picked up another one. (Of course, said cat loves my mom and is scared to death of everyone else. Go figure.)

I'm glad you're okay Kim. That tree could've done a lot of damage.

I don't think it's wrong, but you should do what you think is right on the new cat issue. I mean,it's you who's going to be living with the cat, not anyone else, nor can anyone else tell you what "too soon" is.

Ah. Sorry. I figured that since you were asking us you were just undecided on the issue.

No, I think it's perfectly understandable. Some friends of mine got a new rabbit within a couple days of losing one of their old ones, and it doesn't mean they loved him any less. (Granted, part of the rush was for the sake of the remaining rabbit, who needed a companion.)
