If I wanted to blog on MySpace, I would be blogging on MySpace

This is a petition to stop the current changes in LJ. Feel free to ignore if you're not interested, or if you like the idea of SixApart turning LiveJournal into a clone of MySpace, and making it more "teenager-oriented". Even though all the money they get from paid accounts or paying for extra userpics and what not mostly comes from adults with jobs who use LiveJournal.

...well, crap... I didn't even know this stuff was going on. I knew they were doing a bunch of design and backend work, but I didn't know the specifics.
It's not the design stuff that concerns me though. It's the 'teen-oriented' part about it that bugs me, and the fact that they apparently want all the adults to move to VOX. I mean, what the hell? Are they enforcing 'age segregation' now? Do they think that anyone 18 and over is automatically going to hang out with 18-plus-ers? I mean, puh-lease. Some of the best people I know are still under drinking-age, and they sure as hell are more mature than some 'adults' I know.
Would I have met them if I had just stuck with the 'grown-ups'? Hell, no.

That was probably true before Sponsored Accounts were introduced. Now, with Sponsored Accounts, unemployed teenagers can get all the 'cool' features without paying a cent. And with modern society's 'gimme-gimme-gimme' attitude, there's not many people left out there who'd pay full price for something, when they can get something half-as-good for free. (And that doesn't just go for umemployed teens. My dad, for example, is a cheap bastard who would do the same.)
Top that with the fact that Sponsored Accounts are sponsored by advertising companies that have more money to pay SixApart and LJ than the average LJ adult user with a job, so they're catering to the whims of the ad companies. This explains most likely why they're swinging LJ that way. They're getting the demographic information through the ad marketing, and they're noticing that a lot of the younger users are opting for the Sponsored ACcounts. So to their logic, this is the target demographic they're aiming for, to 'appease their advertising gods'... *cough* Sorry, don't know how that sarcasm got in there.

I've been on LJ since just before they did away with the invite codes. I post every day now. And I want it to stay LJ, not Myspace Light (I avoid Myspace for a reason, people!), and I sure as hell don't want to move house to some "adult-oriented" service just because I'm not a teenybopper. Even though my paid account and extra userpics were a gift, it doesn't change the fact that it was still paid for by an adult with a job. Why can't they just make their new Vox or whatever for the teenyboppers instead, and leave LJ as it is?
Oh Lord...
