Comic book meme, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] melashaan.

Copy and paste these four questions:

1.) What kind of comic books do you like to read?
2.) What's on your pull list and why?
3.) What have you dropped and why?
4.) Is there anything you currently read regularly that isn't on your pull list, and why isn't it?

Then answer them in your blog. Your answers can be as long or as short as you want.

1.) What kind of comic books do you like to read?
Mostly books about superhero teams, particularly ones with "younger" characters like Marvel's New Mutants II/Academy X series or DC's Young Justice. Art is key also; if the art style doesn't look like it "fits" the universe the comic is written in doesn't catch my eye as easily, I won't be as quick to pick it back up.

2.) What's on your pull list and why?
I've got quite a few, so here's the list:

a) New X-Men: Academy X: First started reading this back when it was titled under New Mutants and it hooked me instantly. Part of the reason I like it, I admit, is probably because it's the first X-comic that I've been able to follow as far as continuity goes. In my opinion Academy X has gotten stronger since it first started out and it's the only book I'll pick up at locations outside of the comic book store.

b) Exiles: This one I got hooked on after purchasing the graphic novel at Barnes & Noble. Blink has quickly become one of my favorite female X-characters. The last couple issues have been a little slow-moving, and the last issue was nearly WTF!?-worthy, but hopefully things will pick up especially with the "Timebreaker" possibility introduced. However, I am still pissed that they swapped Nocturne for Birdbeak, and hope that they'll either 1) bring her back or 2)intro her in some way in the Academy X-verse, since that was where she was left when the team moved on.

c) Voltron: Okay, I'll admit I started reading this book only because I'm a die-hard Voltron fan. But while the storyline of the book bares only minimal resemblance to the television series, it is a fresh new approach that works well. Allura isn't as much a damsel in distress as she was in the show, there seems to be a lot more to the Lions, and Sven--as much as I like his character in the show--is more of a three-dimensional character in the book. And so far there's been no sign of Nanny, so...good stuff.

d) Sonic the Hedgehog: Being a fan of SatAM, I thought a comic continuance (of sorts) was great. I'll admit that I did get into it a little late (WAY after the whole "Death of Princess Sally" debacle) and that I've skipped several issues from when I first got into it to when I picked it back up, so I'm fuzzy on some of the continuity. And sometimes the art can get atrocious (whatever happened to J. Axer? Is he not drawing for Sonic anymore?), as can the plots or the dialogue. But it's a feel-good comic if I've ever seen one.

e) Outsiders: This is one of my more recent additions to the pull list. Kind of like an older, more mature Young Justice, but with some characters from Teen Titans or other DC titles. Plus I've totally fallen in love with Arsenal/Ron Harper's daughter Lian, just as I did with Traya Sutton and Manh Nga.

3.) What have you dropped and why?

a) CSI: Considering that my trips to the nearest comic book store are few and far between, I didn't like picking up a couple issues and getting the end of one case and the beginning of another. That and it was a little more expensive compared to the regular books I pulled (not counting back issues). But it's no big loss; I enjoy the regular novels better, and I might give it another chance when the first CSI graphic novel comes out.

b) TMNT: Picked it up because it was based off the new FoxBox series. Read the issue, wasn't that impressed. Dropped it.

c) Bone: It ended. That's...pretty much all I have to say on the subject. But given the fact that I came into the book late and my library has all of the graphic novels (including the prequel Rose...if only the person who checked it out would return it!), I can catch up easily. Something about Fone Bone just makes me wanna hug 'im. ^_^

4.) Is there anything you currently read regularly that isn't on your pull list, and why isn't it?
I like to collect a lot of back issues, like from the first New Mutants and cancelled books like Young Justice. And thanks to my new favorite fandom my collection is now larger by four of Marvel's Doctor Who comics (and hopefully will be added to soon if my package arrives in the next couple of days). Usagi Yojimbo is on my read list, but I tend to get the graphic novels more often than the single issue books. And I'll get the Digimon manga if I don't think that it's doing a worse job than the dub. Chobits I've attempted to get into, and a few of my online friends are attempting to convert me to Yu-Gi-Oh somewhat against my will ;)

I wonder if i qualify as a comic book geek yet...

My sister and I have read the Digimon manga, and...

...

There are parts where it really hurts. Not Nimoy-hurts, but pretty darn close.

And Voltron, yes! Grr, Allura and Sven are that much better? I've got to find it!
