Well, Valentine's is almost over (as far as I'm concerned, anyway). The day was pretty uneventful. Got a card and a box of assorted Celebrations chocolates from my parents. I was pleasantly surprised by my mom yesterday with a bouquet of a dozen lavender roses as well.

So far my Kouichi/Chiaki Valentine's fic has three reviews, both of them at FF.Net (which is being a royal pain in the arse about loading my story for some reason) and both of them nice, happy reviews that made me feel all warm inside. Still, I'm waiting for a flame. I just *know* *someone's* going to "flame" me for not hooking Kouji up with Izumi. And for leading people on to think that there was Kouji/Izumi in it. I just know it.

Sometimes, people never fail to surprise me. This past Thursday, an elementary school in a small town about fifteen minutes from Byron burnt to the ground. Fortunately all of the students and faculty were able to get out safely, but the building itself and just about everything in it is a total loss. People all over the area are doing what they can to help; for instance, donating winter coats, hats and gloves and bookbags to the students who lost theirs in the fire. Three schools in another nearby town are making space for the students so that they can continue school.

Yesterday my mom and I went up to the bank so I could deposit my paycheck and she could do some bank...stuff. While I was standing in the lobby waiting for her (since she was my ride), I noticed a group of four kids and their mom. They had about five or six sheets of posterboard that they were decorating. From what I overheard from their conversations, it sounded like they were putting up the posterboards as giant cards for people to sign for the kids who lost their school. My mom and I went home, and we left just as one of the local newscrews was going in.

Well, these kids made the news last night. As it turned out, these kids were doing more than just putting up cards of support for people to sign. These kids went to the bank with $25 of their own money to start a fund to raise money for textbooks for the kids of that school. They called it the "Kids Helping Kids Fund." I was all but floored by this. It's a shame that not all people can be as giving as these kids were.

EDIT: Here's the blurb from one of the local papers about Kids Helping Kids:

Eleven-year-old Rachel, 10-year-old Reid and 7-year-old Ross Sealby of Byron want to help raise money to help students buy new textbooks. The siblings, who attend Mary Morgan Elementary School in Byron, took $25 from their savings accounts at the Byron Bank to begin the “Kids Helping Kids” fund Friday. To donate, make checks payable to the Kids Helping Kids Fund c/o Byron Bank, 200 N. Walnut St., Byron, IL 61010; or call 815-234-4075.

Is that cool, or what?
