This has got to be THE most inane thing I've ever heard of...

Okay, I'm standing around in our kitchen helping my mother get dinner ready, and she's watching the 5:30 pm news. They close out the show with a segment on some new thing for DVDs called a "Movie Mask" that basically lets parents edit content of movies as they see fit. For example, for the scene in Titanic where Leonardo DiCaprio is sketching Kate Winslet in the nude (she's in the nude, not him), a few clicks of a button can have Ms. Winslet in a corset.

I was all like, "Big whoop," and ready to go about my business when they showed an edited clip of The Princess Bride. The clip was of Inigo Montoya and Westley duking it. But instead of their usual swords, they had lightsabers. The reporter called them laser swords, but with the colors the blades were they might as well have been called lightsabers. As far as I can recall, there wasn't even any blood drawn in that scene. But it was the most inane thing I have ever seen in my life. The censors are going too far.

Fortunately, this Movie Mask thing might not fly. The news report also stated that the guild of directors in Hollywood are planning to fight this thing, as its doing what would be a director's job.

I hope they win.
