Since when is wanting to help enforce rules a BAD thing?

My first LiveJournal entry, and what better way to start things off than with a rant?

Those who know me well know that I converse on-line with Cynthia and Josie a lot, and all three of us have this thing against people trying to get away with violating rules, be it on someone's message board or else at Fanfiction.Net. Well last night I was chatting with Cyn and she showed me a contest someone had up at FF.Net. Contests fall under the category of "non-fics," and Cyn mentioned that she'd already reported this thing once and it had been taken down. So I offered to report it this time.

One of my quirks is that when I report a fic (or non-fic in this case) at FF.Net, I leave a review telling the author that their fic (or non-fic) has been reported and why I have been reported. I dunno why; maybe so they know what they did wrong and know what not to do in the future. That done, I continued on my merry way for the evening before going to bed.

This morning I get up to check my e-mail, and find one from some person. The subject heading was innocent enough, but the content of the message wasn't. Apparently I was a "bitch" and a "bully" because I had reported just that one contest out of all the 20+ contests that are on FF.Net, and because I was ruining the fun of others because the contest non-fic had been removed. Then to take things to a higher level, the author of said contest non-fic posts a rant at DFW's Vent/Rant forum complaining about me reporting her contest. Fortunately several people came to my defense before I got there (you know who you are, if you're reading this. Thanks ;).

So what, I ask, is the problem with wanting to help enforce a couple rules? Obviously Xing knows he needs help doing it, which is why he set up things like forms to report fic abuse. What are the readers at FF.Net supposed to do, just sit there?

*sighs* And of course, it seems like the day has just gone downhill from this morning. I go for my morning walk, at the end of which my feet are killing me (I have lousy feet; I'll probably rant about them in another entry). Mom mildly bitches at me for spending "too much time on the computer," and I spent most of the afternoon sanding rust off of our porch glider, getting my hands all dirty and tingly and itchy.

All in all, one heck of an interesting first entry in my LiveJournal.

Adieuddles! (yet something else I'll have to explain later)
