Quick question, just throwing it out there, any suggestions for a good character (anime, animation, live action, whatever) to partner with a Cutemon?

Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

Poor Adam, always getting the short end of the stick...even if it is funny. And he's a ham.

Officer Cooper seems pretty cool; I just hope this doesn't end up causing problems between Danny and Lindsay. In fact, I pray that the writers don't go down that route. There are plenty of things that can cause drama, so marital problems don't need to be one of them. Besides, didn't we go through something similar about three or four seasons ago?

"I'm your momma; I meddle. That's what I do", and a betting pool on how long it would take Mac to come back to the lab. This is why the New York crime lab is my favorite out of all three series.

And it seems that it's not so much "the creepy place" that Sid's going anymore as opposed to just "that place."

*snicker* Very nice, Flack, giving unsolicited advice on tattoos to a complete stranger.

Oh wow, we finally get to see Jo's eldest! And show of hands, who here thinks that Tyler's new roommate Alex is a she and not a he? Not surprised by Jo doing the background check, also not surprised by Adam's Noodle "Atomic Cat Eye" Incident. I am totally loving the work relationship between Adam and Jo so far this season.

Counterfeit twenty dollar bills - called it! And it's a Lindsay experiment, Mac; it's always worth it. You've forgotten that after three months of being gone from the lab?

Hmm...wonder how that file found its way to Jo's desk. And Sheldon used to be a graffiti artist? Get out!

"Felony lunch-jacking"...*snerk*

Hah! Called it again! "Strictly a roommate", uh-huh. Sure Tyler.

Unlike most people who are going to be answering this my memories of that day are a bit fuzzy; I don't have the clarity of memory for tragedies and disasters that most people seem to have.

All I really remember was putzing around my dorm room that morning because my first class wasn't scheduled until the afternoon, and getting a phone call from my mom wanting to know if I had the television on. When I said "no" she told me that a plane had crashed into one of the World Trade Center towers. I turned on the television, either just before or just after the second plane hit the second tower.

Yeah, so, I'm starting to get a headache from all this DDoS crap. I know it's not LJ's fault that some people out there have to be big gigantic douches and ruin things for the rest of us just to get revenge/get their jollies. But still...

Therefore, so I won't go into journal withdrawals the next time LJ has downtime, and because I can't remember the password for my JournalFen account, I can now also be found over at Dreamwidth: http://ladyiapetus.dreamwidth.org/

Anyone on my f-list who also has a Dreamwidth account, could you please give a shout-out so that I can add you? Anyone on my f-list who doesn't have a Dreamwidth account and would like one, please let me know so that I can try and get you an invite code?

So, I got my copy of the Avatar "Lost Adventures" trade paperback in the mail today. Haven't had time yet for a thorough read-through, but I did flip through the table of contents and one caught my eye:

"Combustion Man on a Train".

I lol'ed.

Wow. If you didn't know it going in, you never would have been able to guess that Daniel Radcliffe was British (or that he'd played Harry Potter).

...

And now Hugh Jackman and Neil Patrick Harris in a...host-off? Is that the word for it?

Well, it is now.

...

Holy crap, Brook Shields just got a whole sentence muted. What a potty mouth!

...

Jeez, put a little more fake enthusiasm into it Christie.

...

And the Tony Award for Non-Sequiter Acceptance Speech goes to...Mark Rylance! [/[livejournal.com profile] chaosvizier]

...

And in closing, Neil Patrick Harris needs to host the Tony Awards every year. That is all.

Now I'm spending it sitting in the family room, waiting for Mom & Dad to call/get back from the hospital with an update on Grandpa.

Oh, I collect quite a few things. The biggest one is probably my collection of Care Bears. I also collect antique skeleton keys, Generation 1 My Little Ponies, Nancy Drew books and dolls, including Strawberry Shortcake and other dolls that were popular during the '80s.

With the exception of the skeleton keys, I think the motivation behind my collections is reliving my childhood. These were either the things I didn't have when I was a kid but wanted, or that I did have and ended up having to give away or sell after I "outgrew" them. Having these collections now...it's almost like it brings a little of that time back to me.

I’ve been wondering what’s up with all the DDoS attacks LJ has been receiving lately. Signal boosting [info]ingridmatthews:

Just in case anyone thinks LJ's downtime is just TPTB being incompetant, read this:

LiveJournal, Russia's blogging platform of choice, is sustaining biggest cyberattack attack in its history. Bloggers say the Kremlin wants to crack down on political discussion.

"LiveJournal, Russia’s most popular blogging platform, has been under a massive DDoS attack for the past few days. The attack has effectively wiped out Russia’s main refuge for unbridled political discussion, a hugely lively and extensive domain frequented by politicians, opposition activists and social commentators alike...

“The reason for attack is more than clear in this case — someone wants LiveJournal to disappear as a platform,” Ilya Dronov, development director at SUP, wrote in a post on his LiveJournal blog earlier this week. He said the hackers were hoping to push bloggers from LJ to social networks where “it's easier to fight individual users.”"
